At East African University Rwanda (EAUR), students in the Mass Communication department are no longer learning only in the classroom, they’re gaining real-world media experience through EAUR CampusVibes Radio, an online student-run station that is giving them a voice and valuable practical skills.
Launched in 2023, CampusVibes Radio is helping students apply what they learn in class by producing, presenting, and managing their own radio programs. The station was created by the Department of Mass Communication and officially approved by the Rwanda Media Commission (RMC) and Rwanda Utilities Regulatory Authority (RURA).
“A Platform for Practice and Growth”
Ashley Mugema, Chairperson of the station, said: “Our goal is to give students a platform where they can grow into professional radio journalists. It’s a space where we can practice and build experience that will help us after graduation.”
The station is entirely managed by students, from planning shows to running the equipment. Programs include news, talk shows, music, and sports, giving students a full range of broadcasting experience.
Popular Shows Include:
Morning Vibes – Music, news, and motivation to start the day
Le Grand Débat – A French talk show discussing current events
EAUR Planet Sport – Sports news from campus and around the world
Street Talk Show – Open discussions about student life

A Space for Freedom, Learning, and Innovation
Learning by Doing
Florien Ingabire, Chief Editor of the station, explained how the radio has helped students: “It is a place where we learn by doing. We build confidence, improve communication skills, and learn how to work as a team.”
Kubwayo Jean de la Croix, a student radio presenter shared his experience: “As a presenter, I’ve learned how to speak clearly, research topics, and follow media ethics. It’s helping me become a better communicator and future journalist.”

A Fresh and Engaging Program
Eaur.CampusVibesRadio offers a variety of shows for all interests such as:
Le Grand Débat Talk-Show: a French weekly show to debate current and social topics.
EaurPlanetSport: the program for sports news on and off campus.

More Than a Radio
CampusVibes Radio isn’t just about broadcasting, it’s about giving students a space to share their voices, develop talents, and prepare for careers in media. It also promotes creativity, teamwork, and confidence.
Florien added, “This is more than a school project. It is a real opportunity for us to grow and support each other as future media professionals.”
As it continues to grow, EAUR CampusVibes Radio is becoming a powerful tool for learning, expression, and student engagement, all streamed online to reach audiences both on and off campus.
