On Sunday November 1st, 2026, the 20 year old clinched his first F1 championship title after finishing third in the Mexican Grand prix which made him the youngest formula 1 champion since Sebastisn Vettel in 2010.

At just 20 years and 68 days old, Antonelli completely re-wrote the history books, dismantling the previous record held by Sebastian Vettel, who was 23 years and 134 days old when he won his first crown in 2010.

The historic victory also carries an immense emotional weight for his home country, ending a painful 73 year drought to become Italy’s first F1 World Champion since the legendary Alberto Ascari in 1953.

Kimi first made his F1 Debut in 2025, joining Mercedes as Sir Lewis Hamilton’s replacement who had then joined Ferrari. It wasn’t a great rookie season for him for someone who had stepped in the shoes of a legend at just 19 years old. This year though was a very successful year for the 20 year old, winning the championship with four races remaining.

“It’s been an incredible season, and to share this podium with Max and Lewis is truly incredible. And looking forward to some more battles in the future,” the 20 year old said.

Antonelli has now scored 380 points with four races to go, the next race will be in Brazil with the final race to take place in Abu Dhabi, hopefully Rwanda expects to receive the 20 year old world champion in 2030 as it will be hosting the African Grand prix in Bugesera.
