Rwanda head coach Stephen Constantine says Amavubi are aiming to take points from Cape Verde when the two sides meet in their second Group K match of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers on Tuesday, September 29, at 6PM(Kigali time).

The match at Estádio Nacional de Cabo Verde in Praia follows Rwanda’s 3-1 opening victory over Liberia at Amahoro Stadium.

“But we’ve come here to try and take some points,” Constantine said ahead of the encounter, after congratulating Cape Verde on their World Cup campaign.

The coach said preparations had gone smoothly and his players were in good spirits as they looked to build on their winning start.

“Preparation here in Cabo Verde has been okay, we had a nice reception,” he said.

“I think players are in good spirits. We had a good game over Liberia, and hopefully we can continue in that form into the game here with Cabo Verde.”

Rwanda’s victory over Liberia came courtesy of first-half goals from Abeddy Biramahire, Leroy-Jacques Mickels and Joy-Lance Mickels, who converted a penalty.

The result put Amavubi level on three points with Mali, who beat Cape Verde 3-1 in their opening match. Cape Verde and Liberia are still seeking their first points.

For Rwanda, a positive result in Praia would build on that start before their meetings with Mali later in the qualifying campaign. Cape Verde, meanwhile, will be looking to recover from their defeat in Bamako.

The teams’ two previous meetings both ended goalless during the 2021 AFCON qualifying campaign, with matches played in Praia and Kigali in November 2020.

The top two teams in Group K after six matches will qualify for the 2027 finals, co-hosted by Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda.
