Rwanda’s U23 team will travel to Juba, South Sudan, for Tuesday’s second-leg clash against South Sudan, needing only a draw to advance to the next round of the 2027 U-23 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

The match will be played at Juba National Stadium on October 6, with Rwanda carrying a three-goal advantage from the first leg, which they won 3-0 at Kigali Pelé Stadium on September 30.

Rwanda took control of the tie in the first half when Abdul Niyigena opened the scoring in the 10th minute, heading home from Daniel Muhoza’s corner.

Honore Shingiro doubled Rwanda’s advantage three minutes into the second half, again benefiting from Muhoza’s delivery, before Jesus Paul Sindi completed the scoring in the 78th minute.

The result leaves Rwanda in a strong position heading into the return leg. A win or draw in Juba would secure their place in the next round, while South Sudan must score at least three unanswered goals to keep their campaign alive.

The tie is part of the first round of the 2027 U-23 AFCON qualifiers, with the competition also serving as a pathway to the men’s football tournament at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games.

Coached by Eric Nshimiyimana, Rwanda are beginning their 2027 qualifying campaign with the aim of progressing to the next round and taking another step towards both the U-23 AFCON and the Olympic qualification race.
