Fabrice Shema Ngoga has resigned as president of the Rwanda Football Federation (FERWAFA) with immediate effect.

In a letter dated September 29, 2026, addressed to FERWAFA’s General Assembly, Shema said his decision followed an integrity issue concerning him personally.

He said stepping down was the responsible course of action to protect the federation’s credibility and public confidence while allowing the relevant processes to proceed independently.

Shema cautioned against interpreting his resignation beyond the facts established through the appropriate procedures.

“My resignation should not be interpreted beyond the facts established through the appropriate procedures,” he wrote.

He reaffirmed his commitment to accountability, transparency and good governance in Rwandan football.

Shema also pledged to support the handover of responsibilities to ensure continuity in the federation’s work.

He thanked the General Assembly, Executive Committee, FERWAFA staff, partners, fans and the national team, Amavubi, for their trust and cooperation during his tenure.

He said it had been an honour to serve Rwandan football.

Shema was elected FERWAFA president on August 30, 2025, succeeding Alphonse Munyantwali. His resignation comes about 13 months into his tenure.
