EAUR BBC Begin First-Division Basketball Campaign with Strong Win Over UGB BBC

Today, February 8, 2026, marked the official start of the Rwanda Basketball League First Division, organized by FERWABA, and newly promoted side EAUR BBC announced their arrival in the top tier with an impressive 78–63 victory over UGB BBC.

Playing their first-ever match in the first division after promotion from the second tier, EAUR BBC showed confidence, physical strength, and depth, particularly in the second half, to secure a deserved win on the opening day of the championship. The team relied on strong rebounding, disciplined execution, and collective effort to overcome early pressure from UGB BBC.

South Sudan international Ruai Luak was the standout performer of the game, leading all scorers with 25 points. His experience and composure proved decisive as EAUR BBC took control after halftime. UGB BBC’s Kayondo offered resistance with 22 points, but his efforts were not enough to prevent defeat.

Ruai Luak, who plays for the South Sudan national team, operates in the shooting guard and small forward positions (2/3) and stands at 6’6”. He has built an impressive career across several countries, having played for Zenit 2 Saint Petersburg in Russia, City Oilers in Uganda, Matero Magic in Zambia, Botswana Dolphins, and Kampala Rockets in the Uganda NBL. His achievements include winning the Uganda NBL title twice with City Oilers, lifting the ABL championship in Ghana, and finishing fourth in the Road to BAL 2025.

Speaking after the match, Luak said the victory was the result of patience and teamwork, noting that UGB BBC started the game strongly before EAUR BBC adjusted in the second half by improving rebounding and overall execution.

Other contributors included Tuyizere Fabrice, who scored 10 points and emphasized the importance of unity and the impact of new players added to the squad ahead of the season.

Head coach Kamanzi Janvier praised his players for translating training ground work into match performance, stressing that physical preparation is a key strength of the team. He added that EAUR BBC are determined to compete strongly despite it being their first season in the top flight and encouraged fans to continue supporting the club.

Assistant coach Imena Aimé highlighted squad depth as a major advantage, explaining that EAUR BBC possess several quality players capable of maintaining intensity throughout the game. He also underlined that Ruai Luak was signed not only for his talent but also for his experience, which will help develop younger players within the team.

With this opening-day victory, EAUR BBC send a strong message as the Rwanda Basketball League season gets underway, signaling that the newcomers are ready to challenge established teams and push for a place in the playoffs.
