Van Nistelrooy eyes extended stay at United

Ruud van Nistelrooy wants to stay at Manchester United even after Ruben Amorim takes charge of the team next week
Van Nistelrooy has been managing United on an interim basis since Erik ten Hag left the club last week. Under the Dutch coach’s tutelage, the Red Devils thrashed Leicester City 5-2 in the Carabao Cup and then played out a 1-1 draw against Chelsea in the Premier League on Sunday

There has been speculation over the former Netherlands international’s future at Old Trafford after Ruben Amorim’s arrival, as the Portuguese coach will fly down with his preferred set of backroom staff. However, Van Nistelrooy confirmed after the Chelsea clash that he hopes to stay at the club even after Amorim takes charge as the head coach
Speaking to Premier League Productions, the 48-year-old told former teammate Paul Scholes, “Before I came to United I was looking to manage, no doubt about that. When United came in with this opportunity, for me, it was a fantastic opportunity. I wanted to be here and I put that [management ambitions] aside. For me, that was a deliberate decision to come here and help out. I just want to stay and do the same thing and, for me, that’s my focus for the moment.”
Van Nistelrooy will be on the sidelines in his penultimate game as the interim head coach on Thursday as the Manchester club takes on PAOK in a Europa League clash at home.
