I don’t follow hearsay,” says Mike Namanya, a first-year Tourism and Hotel Management student at East African University Rwanda (EAUR). “I followed the lives of people who studied here and succeeded.”

As new faces grace the gates of East African University Rwanda’s Kigali campus this trimester, each student brings with them a story, a goal, and a vision. Among them is Mike Namanya, a young man who speaks with quiet confidence and clarity. is first year Tourism and Hotel Management student.
Mike’s path to EAUR wasn’t shaped by flashy advertisements or casual recommendations. Instead, it was built on something deeper: living proof. “When I choose something, I don’t follow hearsay,” he explains. “I followed the lives of people who had studied here, people who are now successful, people you can look up to.”
He didn’t just read about them. He talked to them. Asked real questions. What he discovered, he says, was a common thread, EAUR had equipped them with more than just academic tools; it gave them direction. “They told me everything they have today is because of EAUR,” Mike shares. “That was enough proof for me.”
Now officially enrolled, Mike sees his decision as a steppingstone toward turning ambition into reality. When asked what he expects from his time at the university, he responds with a powerful Kinyarwanda phrase: “Gukabya Inzozi” to make dreams come true.
“I expect EAUR to help me grow, not just academically, but in all areas of life. I want to stay focused, plan step by step, and walk confidently toward my dreams,” he says.
Although he admits he wasn’t always certain about his future path, choosing EAUR has brought clarity and direction. “Now I’ve filtered what I want. I’ve chosen my direction, and I believe EAUR will give me everything I need to succeed.”
Mike’s story mirrors the mindset of many first-year students at EAUR freshmen; focused, hopeful, and ready to grow. As this new academic journey begins, students like him view the University not just as place of learning, but as a platform for transformation.
