EAUR WBBC ready for Rwanda Varsity League quarter-finals with confidence, teamwork and championship ambitions in Musanze.

East Africa University Rwanda Women’s Basketball Club (EAUR WBBC) has expressed confidence ahead of the 2026 Rwanda Varsity League quarter-finals, with the team determined to compete for the championship title.

EAUR WBBC has been placed in Group 1 alongside UR Remera WBBC, RICA WBBC and Kibogora Polytechnic, with the competition set to take place at Busogo Court from May 9–10, 2026. Speaking during an interview on EAUR Vibes Radio, team captain Umuhoza Nadine, popularly known as “Nana”, said the players are fully prepared both mentally and physically for the challenge ahead.

Nana Confident in Team Leadership

“I am ready to lead my teammates well and help the team achieve our goals,” Nana stated.

The EAUR captain emphasized that the team has learned important lessons from previous matches and training sessions, particularly the importance of respecting every opponent regardless of their reputation or level.

“We learned that we should never underestimate any team. We must work hard against every opponent, even those people may think are weaker teams,” she explained.

Tough Fixtures Await EAUR WBBC

Despite being drawn into what many consider a competitive group, Nana maintained that EAUR approaches every match with the same seriousness and determination. EAUR WBBC will face UR Remera WBBC, RICA WBBC and Kibogora Polytechnic during the quarter-finals scheduled for May 9–10, 2026 at Busogo Court in Musanze.

“All teams are strong, so we have to work very hard if we want to defeat them,” she added.

Coach Fabrice Targets Championship Glory

EAUR WBBC head coach Ishimwe Fabrice also expressed optimism about his side’s chances in the tournament, revealing that the university’s main ambition is to win the Varsity League title.

“Our first objective is to win the Varsity League championship. Another goal is to finish first in our group by winning all our matches in Musanze, which would make things easier for us in the finals,” Fabrice said.

Team Preparation and Winning Mentality

The coach praised the commitment shown by his players throughout preparations, noting that the squad has focused on mental strength, physical fitness, teamwork and building a winning mentality ahead of the tournament.

“We trust our players because they are prepared in every aspect mentally, physically, teamwork and winning spirit,” he said.

Challenges Facing the Competition

While acknowledging the growth of the Rwanda Varsity League, Fabrice pointed out some challenges that still affect the competition, including time management issues by game officials and facilities that do not fully meet the required standards.

EAUR WBBC will now look to turn its preparations into positive results as the team begins its quarter-final journey in Musanze with hopes of securing a place in the finals.
