On Wednesday, July 2, at BK Arena, the 2025 Rwanda Basketball League (RBL) finals will begin without two of its biggest stars, Jean-Jacques Boissy of REG and Aliou Fadiala Diarra of APR BBC. Both players have been called up to participate in the prestigious U.S. Summer League, scheduled for July 10–20.
Their absence leaves a noticeable void in what many expected to be a thrilling championship series between REG and APR. Boissy and Diarra played key roles in leading their teams through the playoffs, each earning MVP honors in the decisive semifinal games.

Boissy, REG’s sharpshooting guard, scored 27 points, grabbed 7 rebounds, and delivered 8 assists in REG’s 89–81 Game 3 win over UGB, sweeping the series 3–0. His leadership, vision, and scoring ability have made him arguably the best guard in the league this season.
On the APR side, Diarra dominated the paint in Game 4 against the Patriots, finishing with 25 points and 18 rebounds, forcing a Game 5 which APR went on to win. Known for his athleticism and defensive strength, Diarra has been a matchup nightmare throughout the season.
Boissy & Diarra: BAL Accolades Before U.S. Summer League

Both athletes are already known on the continental stage through the Basketball Africa League (BAL). Boissy shined with Al Ahli Tripoli, winning MVP honors, while Diarra earned Defensive Player of the Year for the second year in a row. Their selection for the U.S. Summer League is another step forward for Rwandan basketball’s rising global presence.
While their absence is a disappointment for fans eager for a star-studded final, it also marks a proud moment for the local basketball scene. The finals now offer a chance for other emerging players to step up, as REG and APR battle for the 2025 title without their top stars.
