APR FC won the 2025 Heroes Cup after defeating Police FC in a tense penalty shootout, winning 4-2. The match which took place on Saturday 2nd Feb 2025, ended in a goalless draw after 90 minutes, and even after extra time, neither team could score.
During the penalty shootout, APR FC scored four times, while Police FC managed only two goals. This victory was special for APR FC, as they got revenge for their loss to Police FC in last year’s final.
As winners, APR FC received medals, a trophy, and a cash prize of RWF 6 million. Police FC, the runners-up, were awarded medals and RWF 3 million.
In the women’s category, Rayon Sports WFC won the title after defeating Indahangarwa WFC. They also received RWF 6 million, while Indahangarwa WFC got RWF 3 million.
The penalty shootout saw APR FC’s Nzotanga Dieudonné, Aliou Souané, Niyibizi Ramadhan, and Ruboneka Jean Bosco score their penalties. Police FC’s Alan Kateregga and Nsabimana Eric Zidane scored, but Ishimwe Christian and Ani Elijah had their shots saved by APR FC goalkeeper Pavelh Ndzila.
The match was full of action, with both teams fighting hard. APR FC defender Niyigena Clément received a red card for a dangerous foul on Ani Elijah. Players like Byiringiro Lague and Alan Kateregga tried to score but were denied. In extra time, APR FC increased their attacks, with Niyibizi Ramadhan and Djibril Ouattra creating chances, but Police FC goalkeeper Niyongira Patience made important saves.
After the match, an award ceremony was held to celebrate the top teams and match officials. With this win, APR FC showed their strength in Rwandan football, taking back the Heroes Cup from Police FC.
