On January 25, 2026, East African University Rwanda (EAUR) organized a strategic retreat, bringing together student leaders and senior university management to discuss ways of improving academic quality and student welfare. The meeting was attended by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Calixte Kabera, the Dean of Students, and the Deputy Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, Dr. Nyisingize Enock, alongside representatives of the student leadership.
The retreat served as an open platform for dialogue on key challenges affecting the university community, including academic standards, student conduct, service delivery, and communication between students and the administration. University management emphasized the importance of transparency, accountability, and collaboration in creating a supportive learning environment and sustaining high academic standards.
Among the key resolutions adopted was EAUR’s commitment to strengthening co-curricular activities. The university announced plans to enhance sports, entertainment, and talent development programs, particularly targeting students with artistic and athletic abilities who have not yet pursued these talents professionally. As part of this initiative, EAUR plans to organize regular cultural and entertainment events each academic trimester to promote student engagement and well-being.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Calixte Kabera noted that the retreat came at a critical time, coinciding with the start of a new student leadership term. He stressed the need for a strong partnership between students and the university, built on clearly defined roles and mutual responsibility. He reaffirmed EAUR’s commitment to delivering clear, efficient, and accessible services, ensuring that students understand where and how to obtain support when needed.

Dr. Nyisingize Enock, Deputy Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, encouraged students to communicate openly and responsibly through established institutional channels. He emphasized that constructive feedback from students is essential in improving academic delivery and maintaining the quality of education.
The retreat also addressed concerns related to academic integrity and student discipline. EAUR reiterated its zero-tolerance stance on examination malpractice and serious misconduct, outlining strict disciplinary measures ranging from course failure and repetition to suspension or expulsion in severe cases. Students were urged to uphold the university’s core values and academic standards.

In closing, EAUR management reassured both current and prospective students that the university is on a positive development path, with ongoing investments in qualified academic staff, infrastructure, and learning resources. The institution reaffirmed its commitment to providing quality education within a disciplined, inclusive, and student-centered academic environment.
