Tragic Loss: Cherissa Tona dies at young age

On November 4, 2024, devastating news broke about the untimely passing of Cherissa Tona Uwanjye, who died during the night of November 3, 2024. According to reports, Cherissa collapsed in the shower after an evening out with close friends. The gathering was in celebration of her recent birthday, which they had been unable to celebrate earlier due to scheduling conflicts.

Cherissa was the beloved younger sister of Miss Shanitah, who holds the title of Miss East Africa 2021. Cherissa who used to be a singer in the group Healing Worship Ministry, was known for her unwavering faith, radiant kindness, and genuine love for others. Friends, elders, and family members who shared their memories described her as a compassionate, prayerful, and warm-hearted young woman whose presence brought light to those around her.

Over the past week, friends and loved ones have gathered to honor and celebrate Cherissa’s life, holding a memorial at Nyungwe House in Busanza. The outpouring of grief and support from the community has been profound, reflecting the deep impact she had on everyone she knew.

The memorial service was attended by several well-known figures, underscoring how cherished Cherissa was within her circles. Among the attendees were Muyango Cloudine, Mutesi Jolly, miss Ishimwe Naomi, and key members from the renowned security team Mackenzie and Muyoboke Alex, along with many other friends, Mcnario colleagues, and loved ones who came to pay their respects.

Cherissa was a valued employee at the Bank of Kigali, where she worked in the call center. Her colleagues remembered her as a diligent and kind coworker who always approached her work with dedication and a friendly smile.

Today, November 9, 2024, Cherissa Tona Uwajye will be laid to rest with honor at the Rusororo Cemetery.
